Nicole Johnson CD(DONA)
Birthing Right Doula Services
Bio
Nicole Johnson is the mother of four children. Her first exposure to the highly technological routines of “normal” birth during her 1999 labor and delivery with her first child led her to strive for a different experience with her next. After much research and education Nicole gave birth to her second child with no medication and very little intervention into the natural process in 2004. She employed the services of a doula to help and her husband achieve the birth they envisioned. This second birth, as with the third and fourth, fueled a passion to help woman receive the kind of education and support necessary to give birth naturally in our medicalized society.
Nicole became certified through DONA, Doulas of North America, in October of 2006 after a year of workshops and attendance at births. She has gone on to help many women and their partners in the Sioux Falls area empower themselves and attain the necessary information and skills to give birth in a way that leaves them satisfied with their experience and launches them on their lifelong voyage of parenting.
Nicole is also serving her second term as vice-chair of the non-profit organization BORN, Birth Options Resource Network. BORN’s mission is to “promote education, provide resources, and empower families to discover that the birth process works.” Nicole helps run BORN’s monthly New Parent Forums at local libraries to give pregnant and new parents the chance to learn about resources available in their area and discuss topics important to the childbearing year with pregnancy, birth, and parenting experts along with experienced mothers and fathers in the area.
Nicole also spends her time caring for her growing family, homeschooling her children, raising a large vegetable garden, and attending church.
